CEDER: Center for Educational Development, Evaluation, and Research


CEDER's Board of Directors provides direction and guidance for the Center's research mission. The CEDER Board is comprised of one faculty representative from each of the departments in the College of Education and the principal of the Early Childhood Education Center.

Dr. Jack Cassidy, director

As well as directing CEDER, Dr. Cassidy serves as associate dean for graduate studies at the College of Education. At TAMUCC, he has also served as interim chair of the Department of Educational Administration and Research, and he has directed the doctoral program in education.

Randy Bonnette
Dr. Randy Bonnette, board member

Dr. Bonnette is chair of the Department of Kinesiology in TAMUCC's College of Education. He is also an assistant professor of kinesiology.

Frank Lucido
Dr. Frank Lucido, board member

Dr. Lucido is professor and associate dean of undergraduate studies in the College of Education. He coordinates the Teacher Education Program and also oversees Project ISLA (Institute for Second Language Achievement).

Susan Luis
Ms. Susan Luis, board member

Susan Luis is principal of the Early Childhood Development Center, an elementary school on the TAMUCC campus. She helps monitor, evaluate, and implement programs which focus on academic achievement, parent and community involvement, character education, and student safety.

JoAnn McDonald
Dr. JoAnn McDonald, board member

Dr. McDonald is an associate professor in the College of Education's Department of Teacher Education, and she is also director of the Educational Center for Mathematics and Science at TAMUCC.

Nancy Nelson
Dr. Nancy Nelson, board member

Dr. Nelson is department chair and professor in the College of Education's Department of Curriculum and Instruction. Her scholarship focuses on reading-writing connections and the politics of literacy. She is best known for her work in writing from sources. She teaches courses addressing critical issues of literacy education, traditions of inquiry, and the theory and practice of reading.

Steve Rodriguez
Dr. Steve Rodriguez, board member

Dr. Rodriguez is currently an Associate Professor and Coordinator of the Educational Technology Program at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMUCC). He founded and designed this program. He is an authority on teacher preparation in technology and instructional design. He has over 16 years experience in higher education as an educational technologist, teacher educator, and media developer.

Robert Smith
Dr. Robert Smith, board member

Chair of the College of Education's award-winning Department of Counseling and Educational Psychology, Dr. Smith is also a professor within that department. He has experience teaching a wide range of courses in counseling psychology and counselor education, with excellent reviews. Dr. Smith also has numerous successes in research, service, and leadership in his field.

Guang Zeng
Dr. Guang Zeng, board member

Guang Zeng is an Assistant Professor of Quantitative Research Methodology in the Department of Educational Administration and Research. Zeng is passionate about the well-being of young children. Her research interests include child development and early childhood education.
